Cultural Summary of Zhengzhou

Historical Identity

Zhengzhou is one of China’s oldest cities, with a history spanning over 3,600 years. It served as the capital of the Shang Dynasty (1600–1046 BCE), one of China’s earliest recorded dynasties.

The city later became a key transportation and industrial hub in central China. Its strategic location along the Yellow River shaped its role in trade, politics, and culture. Today, Zhengzhou blends ancient heritage with modern urban development.
